Not so long time ago...

The Evolution of the PCMS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1931  Rizal Medical Society (RMS) was founded by the Pasig Mayor Sixto J. Antonio, who served as its first president

1948, November  24 physicians from the municipality of Pasig formed a group and called it the Pasig Medical Society (PMS).
1948, December  The PMS was formally launched as a chapter of the RMS with Dr. Jose Concepcion as its first elected president.

1955  Dr. Cristina Cabrera, the first woman physician of Pasig, became president of the society.

1962  During Dr. Alejandro A. Cruz's term as president of PMS, the medical staff of the Rizal Provincial Hospital and doctors from Pateros and Taguig joined PMS and the society became known as the Pasig Pateros Taguig Medical Society (PPTMS).

1995, January 21  Pasig became a city, this event and later, the granting of componentship to Muntinlupa Medical Society (MMS), a chapter of RMS, triggered PPTMS members to contemplate upgrading the society from a chapter of RMS into a component society of PMA.

2001, August  PPTMS ad-hoc committee report was finalized for application for componentship.

2002-2003  RMS studied the componentship bid of PPTMS but had no definitive resolutions. Due to strong opposition from RMS, the issue of componency died down.

2003, May  Tired of waiting for RMS to act on the PPTMS componentship bid, a group of physicians from Pasig City, under the leadership of Dr. Carlito Pajarillo sent a letter to the PMA president witht he signatures of more than 300 physicians from Pasig, Pateros and Taguig, invoking their right to form a component society regardless of the numbers since Pasig is already a city. Drs. Lydia Calingo, Renato Santos, Jorge Licsi, Augustin Bautista and Jose Saquitan were among those who helped Dr. Pajarillo lobby for the componentship of Pasig City Medical Society (PCMS).

2003, June 15  During the first board meeting of then PMA president Dr. Jose T. Sanchez, the PMA Board of Governors, approved unanimously the formation of PCMS of PMA under the region of Rizal. One week later, a general assembly and election of officers was held at Jade Palace Restaurant, Pasig City.

2003, July 30  Induction of PCMS elected officers was held at Galleria Suites with Dr. Jose T. Sanchez as inducting officer. Dr. Carlito Pajarillo was inducted into office as the first president of PCMS.

2003, August  PPTMS under the presidency of Dr. Jose Christopher Sanchez started the "transition period" for the eventual transfer of its members to PCMS.

2003, November  The transition was put on hold when RMS sued and filed a legal case at QCRTC against PMA, PCMS, MMS and Antipolo City Medical Society.

2004, June  The unification process of PPTMS and PCMS was revived.

2004, July  PPTMS members were inducted to the PCMS and the unification of physicians from Pasig, Pateros and Taguig was finally completed.

At present, PCMS is continuously evolving...
